What to Expect From an Online Tarot Reading
The Intuitive Call · 9 min read · Tarot & Reading Fundamentals
If you've never had a tarot reading before, and especially if you've never had one online, it's normal to feel a little unsure about what you're signing up for. Maybe you're picturing a dim room, a stranger telling you things about your future you didn't ask to know, some kind of performance. That's not what this is, and it's worth saying plainly before we go any further: a good reading isn't about someone predicting what's coming. It's about looking clearly at where things stand right now, so you can decide where to take them next.
That distinction matters enough that I built my whole practice around it. I don't read fate. I read trajectory, the direction things are headed based on the patterns already in motion. You still hold the wheel.
With that out of the way, here's what an online tarot reading actually looks like, step by step.
I don't read fate. I read trajectory, the direction things are headed based on the patterns already in motion. You still hold the wheel.
Booking and What Happens Beforehand
You'll pick a time on my booking page, and you'll get a Zoom link in advance. Some readers ask for a specific question or area of focus in advance; others prefer to let the cards guide the conversation naturally. If you're nervous about what to bring, bring nothing more than genuine curiosity about your own life. That's the only prerequisite
How I Set the Container Before We Connect
Before every reading, I spend a few minutes on my own preparing, getting grounded and connected to GOD and all that is around us. I start with prayer and a clear intention: that whatever comes through today serves your highest good. I ask for protection and safety for both of us, and I ask that any message you actually need to hear comes through clearly, without noise or interference getting in the way.
Then I call in your highest self (your soul) and what I'll call your spiritual team for lack of a better term, the guidance that's already around you whether we name it that or not. From there, I tap into your field and take note of what's most prominent for you right now.
This is still trajectory work, not fortune-telling. I'm not summoning a prediction. I'm making space to notice what's already present and already in motion in your life, the same way the cards do once we start pulling them.
The Call Itself
When we connect, I usually open by sharing whatever felt most prominent during that preparation time, the messages that came through from your field or your spiritual team. That said, this part is entirely up to you. I always ask first whether you'd like to hear those messages or would rather dive straight into your questions. Some people want the starting point, some would rather lead. Either way is right, it's your reading.
I read on two cameras, one on my face and one angled over the cards, and I switch between them throughout the session so you can see both me and what's actually being laid out in front of you. It keeps the reading feeling like a real conversation rather than something happening just out of view.
The first few minutes beyond that are just conversation, not cards. I want to know what's actually going on for you, what brought you to book a reading in the first place. This isn't small talk to fill time. It's how the reading gets grounded in your real situation instead of staying abstract.
From there, I'll pull cards and start talking through what I'm seeing, but it's a two-way conversation, not a monologue. If something lands, tell me. If something doesn't fit your life at all, tell me that too. The cards are a starting point for pattern recognition, not a script I'm reading at you.
What the Cards Are Actually Doing
This is where the "trajectory, not fate" idea becomes concrete. Tarot doesn't hand you a fixed outcome. It reflects the patterns you're already living inside of: the habits, the relationship dynamics, the decisions you keep circling back to. A card that points toward conflict isn't a warning of doom, it's a nudge to look at where that conflict is already quietly building. A card that points toward opportunity isn't a guarantee, it's a sign that the conditions are there if you choose to act on them.
Nothing about this is mystical-vague. It's closer to naming what's happening beneath the surface of your own life, clearly enough that you can actually work with it.
After the Reading
Most sessions end with some kind of grounding, a sense of what to sit with or what to watch for in the days and weeks ahead. Some people leave with a clear next step. Others leave with a better question than the one they walked in with, which is its own kind of progress. Either way, the goal isn't to hand you a prediction. It's to hand you clarity, and clarity is something you can actually use.
If You're Still Deciding
If you're weighing whether a reading is right for you at all, How Can Tarot Help You walks through that in more depth. And if the fortune-teller image is what's been holding you back, What I Mean When I Say I'm Not a Fortune Teller speaks directly to that.
An online reading isn't a lesser version of an in-person one. Distance doesn't change what the cards reflect or how the conversation unfolds; it just means you can do this from wherever you already feel comfortable.
